Peace on Earth and all that hopeful stuff :)

I hope you all have had a wonderful amazing Christmas (or whatever you call December 25) and are not too stressed as the new year approaches.  For the past few weeks I have been under the weather with a nasty cold that leaves you a shell of your former self.  Sorry, being sick always leaves me pretty dramatic.  However, even on my deathbed I have managed to
squeeze in some reading.  I have also been thinking about what 2016 holds for me, my writing and this blog.  A recent derailment in my job might just be what I need for motivation in figuring out my career.  That is all I will say at the moment.  Please check back on the 30th of December as I will have some more to reveal...and you may notice some edits to my previous posts (just a bit of clean up!).

In the meantime...stay safe, be happy and keep reading! Peace on Earth and all that hopeful stuff :)

Quickie Review: Cooking with the Stars

Written by Bridget Moynahan and Wendy Howard Goldberg
2015, 288 pages
Genre: Food and Entertaining, Performing Arts

Rating: ★★★

I am a big fan of Blue Bloods even though I am a season and a half behind (damn PVR!) at the moment.  Who does not like a show starring Tom Selleck and Donnie Whalberg, with cops and mysteries and wholesome family dinners?! I have to say one of my favourite scenes in every episode is when the whole family gets together for Sunday night dinners and bicker. When I was quite young our family did have dinners like this but bigger, louder and with a lot more bickering.  When most of got to school age our family drifted away from this, and being an only child dinners were quiet and quick.  Part of me still longs for the big family dinners and that is one aspect of the show that appeals to me.  I was very excited to see that they were putting out a cookbook! I am so glad I decided to borrow it from the library first as I was quite disappointed.  There were some stories from the show in the book but it was more on Bridget and even the recipes had less to do with the show and was again more of Bridget's favourites. The recipes are good comfort food for Sunday dinners but nothing more to them than standard recipes found online.

Naughty or Nice Christmas Romance Read

A little NICE SPICE for the holiday...

(Sanctuary Island: #4)
Written by Lily Everett
2015; 320 Pages
Genre: holiday, romance, contemporary

Rating: ★★★

(I received an ARC from NETGALLEY in exchange for an honest review.)

"Tis the season for family and love…"
In the previous novel, Heartbreak Cove, newcomer Sheriff Andie Shepherd is trying to build a quiet new life on Sanctuary Island when she learns she has a ten-year-old niece, Caitlin.  Caitlin's mother has died and Andie's Army Ranger brother, Owen, has gone missing so she is all that Caitlin has left.  With horse trainer, Sam Brennan they managed to give Caitlin the confidence and love she has always needed.

Just as the little family starts to settle into a routine Owen Shepherd has been found wounded, after trying to save his fallen soldiers and is now coming home.  With all the publicity surrounding him all he wants to do is get on his feet and get to know the daughter he never knew he had.  Before he even arrives on the Island he meets Libby Leeds who does not want to go to Sanctuary Island as her own past is too difficult to face.  Yet she must face it or lose her job and reputation.  Can the two help each other heal and give Caitlin the Christmas she deserves?
My two favourite novels of Sanctuary Island have been book 2 and 3 and when I finished book three I could NOT wait till we had Owen's story.  However, I just couldn't like Libby and her story line in this book.  I did enjoy Owen and Caitlin getting to know each other and finding a place for one another in their hearts.  I will read the next book but I would need it to be a ★★★★ to continue the series.

Debut Author Review: O'Connor & Kincaid Series: Part III

(O'Connor & Kincaid: #2)
Written By Tess Diamond
2015, 99 Pages
Genre: romantic-suspense, mystery

Rating: ★★★★

(I received an ARC from the AUTHOR in exchange for an honest review.)

End Game is the third and last book in the O'Connnor & Kincaid series, but from how it ended I don't think this will be the last time we see Jake and Maggie.  As the hostage negotiation continues we see exactly why the senator's daughter was kidnapped.  I won't say too much about the plot for spoiler reasons, but will say that Diamond ties up the book very well with still leaving her series open to continue in the future. I don't see Maggie and Jake having an easy time with happily ever after or Maggie not making waves at the FBI again.  I also see Maggie digging into her past until she has it all figured up...or at least, I hope that is where Diamond is going!

End Game was released today on Amazon and is available only through Kindle.

Debut Author Review: O'Connor & Kincaid Series: Part II

(O'Connor & Kincaid: #2)
Written By Tess Diamond
2015, 106 Pages
Genre: romantic-suspense, mystery

Rating: ★★★★

(I received an ARC from the AUTHOR in exchange for an honest review.)

Game of Lies continues where the first book left off and but knowing the identity of the kidnapper hasn't made Maggie or Jake's jobs any easier.  They may know the who but now they have to discover the why to get to the Senator's daughter alive.

In the second part of the three-part series we get to know more about Maggie's past - what happened with her own kidnapping as a child and why she left the FBI two years ago.  We get a few glimpses of Jake but not enough to make him a more standout hero.  If you are looking for more heat in the romance department, Diamond does deliver but I was more intrigued with the consequences.  I will definitely be reading the third book as soon as I can because I am curious to see how it all gets tied up.  Stay tuned to tomorrow's post as I will reveal if it is all worth the hype I have psyched myself with, lol.

For those wanting to wait till all 3 books are is your lucky day December 3rd is when End Game will be available on Amazon.

Debut Author Review: O'Connor & Kincaid Series: Part I

(O'Connor & Kincaid: #1)
Written By Tess Diamond
2015; 113 Pages
Genre: romantic-suspense, mystery

Rating: ★★★★

(I received an ARC from the AUTHOR in exchange for an honest review.)

When Tess Diamond asked me to review the first book in her trilogy I went straight to the synopsis and was relieved that it was a novella-length romantic suspense.  I said yes and picked it up a few weeks later and was pleasantly surprised at what I read.

Maggie Kincaid was once FBI's best hostage negotiator until a case went wrong and Maggie slid into self-doubt.  With the disappearance of a Senator's young daughter Maggie has been pulled in by her mentor to bring the girl home safely.  Maggie was once kidnapped, along with her older sister, and knows what it feels like to be a victim but also has insight to how evil thinks and acts.  The Senator's has hired his own investigator, Jake O'Connor, an ex-forces security expert who has his own way of doing things.  As time starts to run out the two must join forces if they want to save a young girl and bring her home alive.

Please note that this novella does end with a cliffhanger but book two (Game of Lies) has already been released and the third novella (End Game) will be released on December 3, 2015.  All three books must be read in order and cannot be read as standalone stories (think serials).  Each is a little over a hundred pages and are quick suspenseful reads.  I enjoyed the character of Maggie Kincaid as she is realistic and also flawed.  You get hints of when she was kidnapped as a child and later when a case goes south and tears her to pieces.  It is this characterization that keeps you reading.  I liked the banter between her and mysterious Jake O'Connor and that we find out about Jake as Maggie does.  In an 113 pages, Diamond gives us so much without bogging the reader down.  The cliffhanger gives us the kidnapper's identity so you think what does book two have in store for us...I will let you know tomorrow as I am currently in the middle of GAME OF LIES.

TESS DIAMOND is a romantic suspense addict with a taste for danger - and chocolate cake. She lives in Colorado Springs with her law enforcement husband, two kids, and ferocious Jack Russell guard dog. She always dreamed of being an FBI agent, and now she almost is - if watching 24 reruns and plotting her next novel counts.
